Werder Bremen played cleverly, picked up three important points and in the end were the winners of the match day - that's pretty much the way to sum up Werder's 2-0 victory at Nuremberg. With the win, the Green-Whites jumped to 11th place on the table, also because they kept their nerves while playing against a direct competitor. "That was a big point game today. Once again, we won against a direct competitor and knew the other results before the game. With the points we were able to create some space," said captain Aaron Hunt.
The team and the club leaders agreed on the importance of the 2-0 win. "The victory was a feeling of success. We knew that we could take a big step forward today. Luckily that happened for us. The fact that we were able to keep our sheet clean again was also a positive and important for our continued development," said manager Thomas Eichin. Keeper Raphael Wolf did not have to reach behind him for the third match in a row.
WERDER.DE listened around in the Nuremberg mixed zone and compiled the most important reaction to the match.
Robin Dutt: "This victory was worth a lot emotionally because we could collect more points. It was also very important in regards to the other results. Now we have an eight-point advantage over Hamburg and Stuttgart and five over Nuremberg. It was a difficult match and we are also a little bit lucky. So it was a very important victory. I am very happy about that."
Philipp Bargfrede: "We have won twice and now worked up a lead. We want to continue to expand this advantage now in the next match against VfB Stuttgart. That will be another difficult match but we will give our all."
Aaron Hunt: "We have no reason to believe that we are through already just because we won two games in a row. This would be the wrong time. Everything is still really tight and we will certainly not take our foot off the gas. Stuttgart will be another extremely important game. We will be playing in our own stadium and can build up a big lead with a victory. We are far from being out of the relegation fight."
Franco Di Santo: "We once again won against a direct competitor and increased the lead. That is not a cushion where we can relax but the victory does allow us to work next week with some calm."
