Up until five minutes before the final whistle, the Green-Whites' defence stood stable in the 101st North Derby. They did their job in a concentrated manner without compromises. In the end, it was small details that led to Hamburg's two goals. "That is football. A match doesn't end after 85 minutes," said head coach Viktor Skripnik.
WERDER.DE compiled the most important reaction to the match:
Viktor Skripnik: "We worked well against the ball in the first half. Of course everybody- including me - wishes that we could have played with more courage in the attack and created more chances. But we need to look at where we are at and how many goals we have conceded. In the end, it was small details that decided the match."
Nils Petersen: "It was 16th against 17th, you could see that. Both teams didn't take many risks and were scared of making mistakes. There were few actions in the box. The match lived off its tension and as a result, a set piece decided the game. We had planned on taking the right punch but we didn't get it done. This is extremely bitter at the moment."
Theodor Gebre Selassie: "We played well, stood compact and waited for our chances. Maybe we could have taken more risks but really everything was okay until we conceded the goal."
Thomas Eichin: "Today, small details decided the game. We didn't take any major risks up front."
Fin Bartels: "In general, I can barely sleep after losses. Luckily, the weekend is over pretty quickly and the next week starts up. We have to show against Paderborn that we took a step forward."
