It was certainly a wild match between TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and Werder Bremen with three penalties, two goals in stoppage time and one very important comeback from Philipp Bargfrede, who scored seconds before the final whistle for a 4-4 draw. Werder were not really in the match at all in the first 44 minutes but once again showed their battling qualities like in the home match against Hannover and against Mainz. Despite a rather poor performance, the team never gave up for one second and could have even won the game in the end, according to Eljero Elia. "If the match was only five minutes longer then we would have even won it. I am certain of it," said the Dutchman, who was subbed out at halftime for Nils Petersen.
WERDER.DE collected reaction to the match afterwards.
Robin Dutt: "That was really amazing that we were down two goals twice and then came back. The team showed an unbelievable morale and believed until the end that everything was possible. This morale is our foundation. If that had not been there today as well we would have had a big problem."
Thomas Eichin: "That was an absolutely wild match. The team once again showed a super morale and showed that we can come back at any time. Now we have to see to it that we don't first concede goals before we can get into the match and dictate the match ourselves more."
Raphael Wolf: "Our team has a strong character. Even if not everything is going so well, we keep on fighting. Today we got a good draw because of our comeback."
Philipp Bargfrede: "The match today showed the team's morale. Now we have to get into our heads that we should play well from the beginning, do a better job getting into the match and then take the lead."
