It just wasn't meant to be! In an exciting showdown at Weser Stadium, SV Werder and 1899 Hoffenheim split the spoils with a 1-1 draw. Bartels, Di Santo and Co. had a number of chances at the end of the game to tip the match in their favour. Even though it ended in a draw, one thing stood out again - the unbelievable morale of the team.
And the morale really should have led to three points if head coach Robin Dutt had his way. "In the end after the many good chances it feels like two lost points." Thomas Eichin and others agreed with the coach as WERDER.DE noted in the mixed zone.
Robin Dutt: "In the first half, Hoffenheim used the space better, got more second balls. We were too far apart in the midfield. Fight-wise, I have nothing to complain about with my team. In the half-time we talked about that and switched some things. After that it was really nice to watch. We played some good forechecking and got the ball up front with few touches."
Thomas Eichin: "We had to fight our way into the match, but that was because of the opponent. Hoffenheim did a very good job in the first half. In the end, they ran out of steam a bit. We got our second wind and played an excellent second half. In the end, we also had a lot of chances that we just couldn't use. Otherwise we leave the pitch as winners."
Franco Di Santo: "I am a little disappointed. We missed a couple chances to get the win. That is unfortunate."
Fin Bartels: "After the deficit, it was only one direction for us. We wanted to turn around the game. In the second half we really had a great performance but we should have rewarded ourselves for it. Now we will work on getting that performance over two halves. We will calmly analyse these 90 minutes and go onto the pitch in Leverkusen like we did in the second half today."
