As the Green-Whites headed over to the fans after the match to thank them for the great support, one could really sense the relief on everyone within the team. After nine matches without a victory, Hajrovic, Di Santo and Co. were able to celebrate an immensely important 2-0 victory at Chemnitz. "We urgently needed this success. It really does us good," said Izet Hajrovic. "Today was all about passing a difficult test and the team did that very well. Today it was only about the result and that worked out," said manager Thomas Eichin about the first small step to returning to a successful season.
WERDER.DE listened around after the cup victory and compiled the most important reactions.
Clemens Fritz: "We played very compactly, waited for Chemnitz's mistakes and then did a good job pushing forward. The difference today was that we passed the ball well in the midfield and used our goal chances at the right moment. And the main thing is that we won. Altogether it was a very good performance from the whole team. I am happy that we were able to advance to the next round."
Fin Bartels: "Over stretches we played really good football and scored the goals at the right time."
Thomas Eichin: "The coaching staff tried to convince the team that they can master any challenge. In the beginning you could tell that the guys were going around with a heavy weight on their backs but over the course of the match the confidence and fun came back. I am certain that it will be a push forward for us for the next games."
Viktor Skripnik: "That was a very nice beginning. We are very happy that we advanced but it's too bad that today wasn't a Bundesliga match. Beforehand everyone said that we were the clear favourites but you could see that it was hard work. We needed to remain concentrated for 90 minutes and the team did that superbly. I am very proud of the guys. We are deservedly in the next round but we haven't saved ourselves yet. So now we need to continue to work hard."
