A weak first half, a marked improvement in the second half and an excellent morale - that's what made up SV Werder Bremen's 2-2 draw at Hertha BSC Berlin to start the Bundesliga season. It was a point that both sides could be happy about in the end. "I am happy that we have carried over the traits from last season and never gave up. In the end, I am happy about the point," said head coach Robin Dutt at the press conference after the match.
Manager Thomas Eichin was also happy about the fight the Green-Whites displayed. "A compliment to the team that they came back after falling behind 2-0. The guys are great, everyone fought until the end. Considering the 2-0 deficit, I am satisfied with the point. Now we have to forget about the match, we got a point and have to make sure we win the home match," said Eichin.
Further reaction to the match:
Cedrick Makiadi: "After a weak first half, we had hoped to do some good things in the second half and then we get sucker-punched. But we recovered very well from that, did not stop believing in ourselves and in the end deserved to make it 2-2. The good mentality was also one of our strengths from last season. That's the only way we were able to come back from the 2-0 deficit."
Raphael Wolf: "The first match is always difficult. The sequences are not yet automatic, you don't know exactly where the other players will be. But we did a very good job, especially in the second half. Altogether, we did a good job other than the two goals we conceded. We can live very well with the draw."
Assani Lukimya: "It's not easy to play in Berlin. Hertha applied pressure at the start and we struggled with that. After half-time, we played better also tactically. But we can still play better. Today, the super character of the team brought us back into the game."
Raphael Wolf: "We advanced to the next round in the cup and got a point on the road - that is okay."
