Werder? Zero. Bayern? Seven! Mario Götze's goal in the 90th minute sealed Werder's worst home defeat in Bundesliga history. Hurricane Xaver luckily went by two days ago without major issues but Über-Bayern swept over Bremen's Weser Stadium with all their might and are now undefeated in the last 40 matches in the last 13 months. To the disappointment of SV Werder. The Green-Whites were not lacking in effort, motivation or will Saturday afternoon. But they had to have recognised early on that they wouldn't be able to do much against this opponent.
"We are a team. I am 100 percent convinced of this team. If I had the feeling that they took the pitch not willing to give everything, then you could say something. I observe these guys every day in training. They have been working hard for weeks. In that regard I have their back," said head coach Robin Dutt after the match. "This kind of defeat can also be a really big chance for the team to develop a mentality with the motto: ‘Us against the rest of the world!'"
WERDER.DE noted down further reaction from the mixed zone:
Thomas Eichin: "I saw today that we were inferior in every facet. In the second half we had one or two chances but Bayern took advantage of their chances ruthlessly. I was worried a bit and was really happy when the 90 minutes had passed. We just had no chance today in all areas. That was a demolition. That was nothing. We need to very, very quickly forget this match and look forward."
Clemens Fritz: "That was a difference in classes. They made us look like fools at times. Bayern have had this dominance through the various competitions the whole year. We should have assumed that it wouldn't have been any different today. We wanted to play courageously and attack Bayern early on. That didn't work out in the least. When you play against Bayern, you just need to have a good day. In the end, 7-0 is embarrassing."
Nils Petersen: "We had the chance to play a good match and use the momentum from the 4-4 in Hoffenheim. We wanted to get some confidence today. But we could not stop Bayern in the way we had imagined. They rolled over us. The result speaks for itself."
