The disappointment after the 3-1 loss against FC Bayern was visible on the players' faces after the final whistle. The team had played with a lot of energy and really made things difficult for Bayern for a while, but in the end the Green-Whites were left empty-handed. "That was a good reaction from the team to the defeat last week in Cologne. Until the equaliser we had done a good job. We challenged them early and really played at a high tempo and wanted to pressure Bayern from the very start," said Klaus Allofs about the team's good showing. "You cannot accuse the team of anything today - the result just didn't measure up," added the manager.
Thomas Schaaf was also satisfied with his team's performance. "Naturally we are very disappointed. We had gained the lead but could not continue to deal with Bayern. Still the team did well today, did a lot of things a lot better than in Cologne. They fought and you saw that we wanted to change something. Unfortunately we were not rewarded for this performance," said the head coach. "We played well and fought well. Just the result is the wrong one. But in our situation we don't have any time to stick our heads in the sand. If we play every game like we did against Bayern then we will win again," said captain Torsten Frings.
But the Werder players and staff don't want to just wait for luck in the coming weeks even though they got a bit closer with some hard work. "The situation is just as difficult as it was before. We have to make sure that we get a positive result and we will try to continue how we did today. We cannot drift one millimetre from it," said Schaaf.
