After the first days at their winter training camp, Werder will finally play their first match of the new year this Monday. SVW will face off against Turkish top flight side Trabzonspor at 8 p.m. as part of the Tuttur Cup. "This is a good team which has regularly attracted the spotlight in recent years. We will have 18 players on the squad and put together a team with whom we will get going quickly," said Bremen head coach Thomas Schaaf respectful about the opponents, who are also residing at the Gloria Serenity Resort.

In addition to Halil Altintop, a former Bundesliga player with Schalke, Kaiserslautern and Eintracht Frankfurt, another prominent player with Trabzonspor is Marc Janko - an Austrian international striker and friend of Sebastian Prödl. "We met up briefly last night and talked - of course, also about the match. Trabzonspor have been here in training camp since 29 December, so they are a little more tired. But we have also worked very intensively and also have heavy legs," said Prödl, who is looking forward to the showdown against his Austrian teammate.

Janko is also looking forward to the encounter. "The match is a test match just like any other. But of course it's also special to play against Basti because he's a friend and certainly we won't let them do what they want," said Janko. Prödl, however, reiterated that the performance of the team is much more important that the private match-up with his fellow Austrian, saying: "We are facing off against really good opponents in the preparations. For us, it's important that we can quickly find our game, play a good match to really be get when it gets serious against Dortmund."
