SV Werder Bremen will have to make do without Sebastian Prödl for two matches as the German Football Federation's sports court handed the centre back a two-match suspension. Prödl and Werder Bremen have both accepted the ruling, making the decision binding.
The Austrian was shown the red card by referee Marco Fritz in the Green-Whites' away match against Bayern Munich after fouling Mario Gomez in the 44th minute. "A two-match ban was to be expected. We didn't see any criteria to appeal the ruling," said Werder manager Thomas Eichin. It was the first red card for the Austrian defender in his Bundesliga career.
The 25-year-old will miss Bremen's home match this Saturday 2 March 2013 against Augsburg as well as the away match against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday 9 March 2013.
