Shortly before the league campaign gets underway against Hertha BSC Berlin on Saturday, SV Werder's injury list is finally dwindling. Following the return of Franco Di Santo and Ludovic Obraniak to full team training on Tuesday, Sebastian Prödl was also back amongst his colleagues on the pitch since Thursday afternoon.
As a result, trainer Robin Dutt will be almost spoiled for choice for the Bundesliga opener. As to whether Prödl, Obraniak and Di Santo will be fit enough to make the squad for the game against Hertha was still unclear at the pre-match press conference on Thursday afternoon. "I'm going to keep my options open for the remaining two training sessions and then make my decision - but of course it's good to have Ludo, Basti and Franco back in the reckoning."
Not only the possible return of three previously injured players gives reason for hopes of a successful start to the 52nd Bundesliga season though: "When I take a look around the training pitch and watch the lads at work, then I would have to say that they are really fired up for the start," emphasized Robin Dutt, with a view to the impressions being made by his men in training.
The developments have also been registered by Thomas Eichin. „I really believe the team is now ready to take the next step. We have players who were playing in the Bundesliga for the first time last season and they are still capable of improving. For that reason, I am confident that we can have a good season and improve ourselves continually," explained Werder's general manager.
