Werder centre back Sebastian Prödl returned to Bremen with minor aches as the Austrians suffered facial and pelvic injuries in his national team's 4-0 victory over Kazakhstan. "I got a small knock on the nose and had to be subbed out, but it won't affect me anymore. I will do everything I can to be on hand against Gladbach on Saturday," said the 24-year-old Prödl, who played 59 minutes in Vienna before his substitution.
Shortly after receiving a facial knock in a challenge, Prödl fell unluckily on his backside. "It was painful initially and I still have minor problems in the pelvic area. But our physio department will certainly take care of that. I want to train again with the team tomorrow," said the Austrian confidently.
Werder coach Thomas Schaaf was relieved that Prödl had not suffered a similar facial injury as in January, when the defender had a number of broken facial bones and a concussion against Kaiserslautern. "I am happy that nothing worse happened. It's natural that he will get into some tough challenges as a defender. You cannot avoid it," said the coach.
