Werder defender Sebastian Prödl will remain a Green-White for another three years as the Austrian international extended his contract until 30 June 2015. Werder board chairman Klaus Allofs announced the extension Wednesday afternoon.
"We are happy that Sebastian is taking this step with us. He is an important player for the continued development of the team. With his potential, he could become a real pillar of our team," said Allofs.
"That is good news," said head coach Thomas Schaaf about the contract signature. "Sebastian has developed really well in his time thus far with Werder and really took a big step forward last year despite some bad luck with injuries. We are happy that he will continue his way with us."
The contract extension was a logical step for the Austrian. "Werder's goals and mine are the same. I want to give my all and continue to develop and take over some responsibility. SV Werder has really found a place close to my heart in the last four years," said Prödl.
Prödl transferred from SK Sturm Graz to the Weser in the summer of 2008. He has appeared in 71 Bundesliga matches since then as well as five matches in the German DFB Cup, including a victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the 2008-09 final.
