And the winner is... SV Werder Bremen. The Bundesliga club has been awarded the first ever Honorary Prize for Integration 2012 by the German Football Federation (DFB). The Green-Whites won the award for their CSR brand WERDER BEWEGT - LEBENSLANG (Werder affects - for a lifetime). "We are very happy. It's already the second meaningful prize for our young brand. This public acknowledgement confirms our idea of standing up for society," said Werder club president and manager Klaus-Dieter Fischer.
A jury including DFB President Wolfgang Niersbach named SV Werder the winner of one of four integration prizes. The club will accept the award at a gala on Monday 25 March 2013 in Nuremberg, one day before the German national team's match against Kazakhstan.
SV Werder have been gathered their efforts to improve social conditions under the brand WERDER BEWEGT - LEBENSLANG. The club provides various campaigns and initiatives for all generations and promotes integration and tolerance. In total, the 10 full-time employees in the department attend to and manage 20 projects as well as 350 partner institutions and clubs.
The club's director of CSR management and fan and member support Anne-Kathrin Laufmann sees the award as an important and deserved recognition. "Sport conquers boundaries. In the game, what counts are respect, fair play and having fun. We experience that every day to our delight in our practical work with children and youth. So the prize is a confirmation for the work of our employees and coaches," said Laufmann.
