"I knew immediately that I would take it (the penalty). I felt good," said Hunt after the game. It was a big goal for Werder's number 14, who once again is playing a big role in the plans of head coach Thomas Schaaf. "I can be satisfied today even though the last bit of conviction was missing in some of my actions. But it's coming back more and more with these kinds of scenes," said the 24-year-old, who knew he was being closely observed by the fans in the stands. "After last season, this season is just as important for me as it is for the entire team. And it's going well. I got through the preparations without any problems and I am accepted in the team and have the confidence of the coach. Now I want to continue to improve."
Manager Klaus Allofs was happy about Hunt's reaction. "The kinds of moments like today are scenes with which you can position yourself. You cannot always wait to take a penalty ahead 3-0. As a leader you have to step up in that kind of situation. That will bring him a step further," said Allofs about Hunt. "Aaron needs more recognition for his game." Still, Allofs does not expect Hunt to become a fan favourite from one day to the next. But he sees the relationship on a good path. "He was really close to the German national team and had to deal with a certain disappointment. But now he is doing a lot of things better. And the fans see that. More important for Aaron regardless will be that he has a high value within the team," added Allofs.
