At 2:54 p.m., Zlatko Junuzovic said goodbye to his girlfriend Katharina and his father with a quick hug. He couldn't offer all that much more after the press conference, which his family members attended along with the media representatives. That was because head coach Thomas Schaaf took the 24-year-old with him as the first training with his new teammates awaited. "Juno" - as his teammates with Austria called him - jumped right into the life with the Green-Whites. "For me, it's almost like a new life is beginning," said Werder's new midfielder. A life which he will experience with number 23 on his back. "Juno" wants to present an "attractive football" and he hopes to experience international club competitions starting in the summer. He is also hoping to give his career a push towards the next sporting stage. "Until now I have always done everything step by step. I transferred from Carinthia to Vienna and now from Vienna to Werder. But this is a very large and very important step. I will give my all every single day," said Junuzovic.
He plans on going at things with full concentration on the sporting challenge. He does not want to get distracted by all the media attention surrounding his transfer. "Everybody is writing about an Austrian Özil. Of course that is flattering to a young player, but I am not worrying about that. I have bigger tasks than dealing with something like that. I want to get integrated quickly into the team and play my game. I enjoy playing the game, just having fun kicking the ball. I know my strengths and weaknesses and will continue to always work on them," said Junuzovic. "Everyone has their personal goals and mine is continuing to develop. And that could be documented very well with a title." But first Junuzovic would like to help Werder make their way to fourth place. "I think it will end FC Bayern, Borussia Dortmund and Schalke - in that order. Despite the strong performances by Gladbach, I believe that they can still be caught if everything works out," added the new acquisition.
