The waiting is finally over. The Werder players were back in Bremen since Thursday morning. Head coach Robin Dutt welcomed his men to the catacombs of Weser Stadium at 9 a.m. But there was not much time for the players to talk about their latest holiday experiences because there was a full training schedule waiting for the team on the first day.
The Werder players completed various drills in the weight room in three groups. The focus under the watchful eye of athletics coach Reinhard Schnittker was strength and jumping drills. It was a start that not all players were happy about. "I actually don't like being in the weight room. But it's part of it all," said Fin Bartels.
New acquisition Alejandro Galvez added: "I was a little nervous when I arrived but the anxiousness was a lot less after the first session." The Spanish centre back is hoping to integrate himself as quickly as possible in the coming weeks. And he will get help from Franco Di Santo and Santiago Garcia, who can act as translators. "Unfortunately I cannot talk to the others that much. But Franco and Santi help and they always give me a brief summary after the coach holds his talks," said Galvez.
The first day of training also included a lactate test and then a training session in Weser Stadium. "I am certain that we will do a good job of integrating the new players. It is important that they also have the support in the team. We as a team will definitely do our part that they have a good start here," said Zlatko Junuzovic.
