Claudio Pizarro showed up for the press talk at the Weser Stadium press conference Wednesday afternoon in socks. But the Peruvian will be wearing some football boots over those socks on Saturday for the North Derby at Hamburg. "That is the most important game for me," said "Piza", who made no secret about the meaning of the 96th Bundesliga showdown between Werder and Hamburg.
But the 33-year-old is not only looking forward to the sporting aspect of the game. But he is also looking forward to meeting up with his friend and compatriot Paolo Guerrero. "We have a very good relationship. We see each other almost every week," said Pizarro. "I drive to Hamburg and meet him there." The friendship started during their time together at Bayern Munich. "We played together a long time and became friends," said Pizarro. Guerrero is also looking forward to seeing his friend. "We are not playing against each other for the first time. But it's always something special," said the Hamburg striker.
But the friendship will be put on hold Saturday for 90 minutes. "We will give our all for our clubs," said Guerrero "I know that Claudio has often won with Werder. But we also have won as well. The only thing that counts is the result on Saturday." Pizarro hopes the Green-Whites can finally return to the winning column. "We have played to four straight draws. Now we absolutely want to win and we will show that from the beginning," said Pizarro.
