There was a departure at Weser Stadium on Tuesday as Claudio Pizarro told the Werder sports bosses that he would be leaving SV Werder at season's end. "Piza" took to the microphone on Wednesday 16 May 2012 to publicly confirm his decision to the gathered media representatives. The Peruvian said it was a "difficult decision". "That's why it took so long. I wanted to really think about it. It was not easy because I have a big love for Werder Bremen and a lot of respect for the team," said Pizarro.
Manager Klaus Allofs confirmed that the 33-year-old striker struggled with his decision. "Claudio came to me yesterday and said that he had made his decision. Looking at his body language and facial expression, I could tell that he had decided against us. Yesterday was a sad day for Werder Bremen because we had experienced a lot of wonderful moments together and he had such a positive aura. What he embodied meant a lot to us," said Allofs, who had hoped until the last minute that Pizarro could be convinced to stay along the Weser.
The Peruvian did not say for which club he had decided. "I have offers from the Bundesliga, but I do not know if I will still play in Germany. I will take my time with my decision," said the top foreign-born scorer in Bundesliga history. Certain is that Pizarro was seen for the last time in Green-Whites dress on Wednesday at the Weser Stadium training grounds. "It's not nice to say farewell to friends and colleagues. But things move on in football and we will remain in contact. Besides, I will come back and say goodbye to everyone that I know," said Pizarro.
