Striker Nils Petersen will play this season in a Werder jersey as the Green-Whites acquired him on loan from record champions Bayern Munich until 30 June 2013. Werder manager Klaus Allofs confirmed the deal Friday afternoon. "We wanted this transfer for a long time and we are happy that it's finally all cleared up," said Allofs.

"He is a central striker who has already proven his ability to score," said Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf. "We are happy that he is coming to us. We are certain that he will have the right conditions to continue his development."

Petersen will complete his medical check-up next week in Bremen and is expected to be at Werder's start of training on Thursday 5 July 2012. He began his career at hometown club of Einheit 90 Wernigerode. After stops in 1. FC Wernigerode, FC Einheit Wernigerode and VfB Germania Halberstadt, the 23-year-old landed at Carl-Zeiss Jena, where he made the jump to the senior level.

In the winter break of the 2008-09 season, the striker moved to Energie Cottbus, where he scored 35 goals in 56 second division games between 2009 and 2011. Petersen was the scoring champion of the second division in 2010-11 with 25 goals. Last season the former German U21 international transferred to Bayern Munich.

He appeared in nine Bundesliga matches for the German record champs and scored two goals. He played in three Champions League matches and one in the Champions League qualification.
