Nils Petersen will remain with SV Werder for a while as the striker, who had been on loan last season from Bayern Munich, signed a four-year contract with the Green-Whites until 30 June 2017. Werder, Bayern and Petersen agreed to the deal though further details were not released.
"We are very happy that Nils will be scoring goals in the coming years with the Werder diamond on his chest. He showed last season that he fits in perfectly here. We are certain that he still has enormous potential and can continue to develop with this long-term perspective and can become one of the strong pillars of the team," said Werder manager Thomas Eichin.
The striker, who played in all 35 competitive matches for SV Werder in his first season and scored 11 Bundesliga goals, is also happy about the confidence from the Green-Whites. "I waited a long time for this news. Now I am very happy that everything happened how I wanted it. I will be highly motivated going into the season. I want to help that we can again take a big step forward," said Petersen.
The 24-year-old began his career at his home club FC Einheit 90 Wernigerode, moving during the 2008-09 winter break to Energie Cottbus, where he played 56 second division matches and scored 35 goals from 2009 to 2011. Petersen won the scoring title in the second division in 2010-11 with 25 goals. The next season the former German U21 international transferred to Bayern Munich. He played in nine Bundesliga matches and scored two goals for Bayern to go along with three Champions League appearances and one in the Champions League qualifiers.
