Werder's routine run-down Sunday morning following their Saturday match was accompanied by some bad news as Nils Petersen will miss six weeks. Directly after the 0-0 draw against Freiburg, Werder team doctor Götz Dimanski diagnosed a partial ligament tear in Petersen's left knee.

The striker suffered the injury directly after his goal chance in the 90th minute. "I felt something right away after the shot when my knee twisted. I cannot really say if it somebody else hit me or not," said Petersen about the incident. He let out a slight smile and added: "If I had made it 1-0 then the pain wouldn't have been as bad. At the moment I am aggravated more about missing the chance than about the injury." It will be the first injury break in the Bundesliga for Petersen. "I have never missed a match because of injury and I hope that it maybe goes quicker than they estimated," said the striker.

Head coach Robin Dutt, who was a guest on the Sunday morning television show "Doppelpass", looked ahead to the next away match in Wolfsburg next Saturday. "Missing Petersen and Franco Di Santo hurts a lot but I am certain that we will find a good solution against Wolfsburg," said the coach.

Also on Werder's injury list is Zlatko Junuzovic as the Austrian suffered a gash to his head in the Freiburg match. But he was able to laugh again on the sidelines at Sunday's session. "I received three stitches in the locker room directly after the injury. Now we have to see about the next two, three days to see how the stitches hold," said the midfielder.

In addition to Junuzovic, Aaron Hunt was also not on hand for the run-down with gastro-intestinal problems.

There was good news though as Franco Di Santo was back on the pitch running laps with his teammates. It's unclear when the Argentinean striker will return to training.
