PART 1

Petri, seven years with Werder Bremen. What should the people in Bremen think about when they look back at you?
About a player who liked to play here, who was never sent from the pitch and was never suspended. But of all times right now I have picked up four yellow cards - more than ever before.

You know the last impression remains the longest. The people will recall the "iron-hard Finn" after the four yellow cards.
(Laughing) No, not that. But it would have been a problem if I had been booked against Wolfsburg. Then I would have missed my final home match at Weser Stadium. That would have been really hard.

But in the interview afterwards you would have said: "I'm not important. The team and the points are important." Then you would have gone into the changing room and been really angry.
Yeah, that's probably right.

Why is it so important for you not to show emotions?
There is hardly a player about whom less is known off the pitch than you.

I don't know. I think in those kinds of situations the team is more important to me than the publicity. My teammates see how I feel. If I show that too much then the attention would be unnecessarily placed on me instead of the team. But when my teammates read that the team and points are more important for me then they have a better feeling. They know I stand by their side!

Is there a place in Bremen which you will really remember?
I moved three times in Bremen and have nice memories of all three places. Those were simply places where you feel the best. But there is a location which will always be connected to my name after I leave.

Hah, this should be interesting.
The sauna in our new changing room. When the East Curve was renovated and the new changing room was planned I asked if I could take care of the sauna. I recommended a couple things and got them from Finland (laughing). That will be my legacy to the following generations.

So a sign should be put up: "This sauna was provided by Petri Pasanen in 2010!"
Yeah, that would be something. Maybe it will still happen.

Read Part 2 of the farewell interview tomorrow. Petri talks about his experiences with keepers Reinke and Wiese and offers some insight into the difficult time after the death of his mother.
