The 2012 Olympics have already started for one Werder player with three others anxiously awaiting the start over the weekend. When the 30th Olympic Summer Games kick off Friday evening in London, then SV Werder Bremen will be crossing their fingers for four athletes.

In addition to Francois Affolter, who will be kicking for the Swiss Olympic team, three members of Werder's future table tennis Bundesliga team will be performing in London with new Werder player Chih-Yuan Chuang for Taiwan, Paul Drinkhall for Great Britain and Romanian Adrian Crisan.

The Games started a bit aggravating for Affolter as the Werder player sat on the bench for 90 minutes in Switzerland's 1-1 draw against Gabon. Switzerland are in action again on Sunday in Group B against South Korea while Gabon take on Mexico.

Table tennis trio active on the weekend

The Green-Whites' table tennis athletes will start their action this weekend with Werder newcomer Chih-Yuan Chuang of Taiwan going into the 30th Olympic Summer Games with high hopes after reaching the semi-final at Athens 2004.

The first balls will fly Saturday morning with Paul Drinkhall playing for Great Britain in the afternoon while Adrian Crisan of Romania and Chih-Yuan Chuang can both expect a longer tournament with the third round matches planned for Monday afternoon.
