Aleksandr Ignjovski was in the Ukraine, Sokratis in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Mehmet Ekici in Turkey whilst Tim Wiese travelled to Stuttgart and Lennart Thy joined Florian Trinks at the German Under 20 educational seminar in Hennef. Werder's six international representatives where spread across the continent until Thursday morning, before joining up with Thomas Schaaf and his men again.

"In the first game against Uzbekistan I was on the pitch for 60 minutes. It was important for me to play again, as I had been training a lot on my own and was only able to participate in a few training sessions with the rest of the team. I do feel fit though," said a happy Aleksandr Ignjovski on his outing with the Serbian Under 21 team. Both Mehmet Ekici and Sokratis also returned from international duty unscathed. Fans watching yesterday's training didn't get to see that duo in action though, as Thomas Schaaf opted to rest both players following their long journeys.

Marko Marin was also absent from team training due to an allergic reaction. The pacy winger had become "flushed in the face, seemingly having eaten something which didn't quite agree with me. The discolouring was gone after an hour and I didn't need further treatment. Everything is OK now," said Marin, who will return to training tomorrow. Philipp Bargfrede was also an absentee on Thursday: "I tried my luck this morning but the injury hasn't completely healed up just yet. It's quite likely that I will have to sit out tomorrow too," said the club's number 44.

On a more positive note, Claudio Pizarro has been back in the thick of things for a full week: "The fact is that the situation has improved. That is an advantage. We'll have to wait and see it that's enough for the game against Leverkusen," explained Schaaf. Tim Borowski on the other hand is almost definitely out of the reckoning: "Boro will probably not be available," noted a pessimistic Schaaf.
