Neither of the teams really could be satisfied with the result and emotions were heated after the final whistle. Green-Whites v Red-Whites - Werder against Nuremberg. The players exchanged some hot-headed words on the Weser Stadiums grounds, but things settled down afterwards - both on the pitch and later in the catacombs. "Those are emotions. I don't know what it was all about. We don't need those kinds of scenes. But now everything is okay, everyone likes one another again," said Werder head coach Thomas Schaaf to the scenes right after the final whistle. The 90 minutes themselves provided plenty of stuff to debate in the mixed zone after the match.
As always, WERDER.DE collected reaction to the match:
Thomas Schaaf: "It was a match similar to those we experienced so often this season. In the first half, we could have gone into the lead. We made things more difficult for ourselves by losing the ball. On offence, we often played too risky and invited the opponents to counter us. We absolutely must stop loosing the ball so easily because that just makes the opposing team stronger. We applied a lot more pressure in the second half and were more motivated. We just have to convert our chances."
Marko Arnautovic: "If you look at the chances, we normally should have won. We could have played until tomorrow and not have scored another goal. It just wasn't meant to be today. It was not my match today. I should have at least scored in the first half. My legs were heavy and I don't feel that good. If I would have felt better I would have scored the goal."
Nils Petersen: "Nuremberg played like a team that was afraid of the opponent. They can thank the man upstairs that they got a point here. Their goal came out of nowhere. But they set it up well. I have to praise our defence. They didn't allow anything today."
Kevin De Bruyne: "I think it was an unlucky match for us. Nuremberg had two chances and scored one goal. We could have scored more than one goal. Schäfer made some good saves. I, myself, had a lot of chances. But that's football, it happens."
Aaron Hunt: "We had some chances, including some very, very good ones. Nuremberg scored one goal from two chances. This was the continuation of what's been happening in the last matches. We fail to convert clear chances and are then penalised for it. We just are not finishing the job. We just keep letting the opponent stay alive."
