SV Werder's next three matches are a tough challenge as the Green-Whites take on Augsburg, Dortmund and Gladbach. With that in mind, it's all the more disappointing that Bremen collected just one point in their last game on Sunday against Eintracht Braunschweig. "We have a difficult schedule ahead of us. The match in Augsburg and the home matches against Dortmund and Gladbach are hammer matches for us. The two lost points against Braunschweig really hurt. Werder should expect to win a home game against the last placed team," said an aggravated head coach Robin Dutt after the Braunschweig match.
While Augsburg surprised Dortmund with a 2-2 draw on the road, Borussia Mönchengladbach lost against Bayern Munich 2-0 but are still on a Champions League qualification spot. And Philipp Bargfrede knows that Werder's up-coming opponents Augsburg have played a strong season. "We know what our situation looks like. We have a couple of points advantage on the lower spots, but our situation is dangerous. Everybody below us got wins over the weekend. We still have a long second half of the season. Our next opponents Augsburg have played a very good season until now. They put an exclamation point on that with the draw in Dortmund. But we also want to get points there with our defence," said Bargfrede.
The defence worked well against Braunschweig. Raphael Wolf kept his sheet clean for the second straight match. The Green-Whites however have not been able to win a game with a lot of ball possession. Still, Bargfede and Co. want to push the team forward on Saturday in the SGL Arena. "Now we have to look forward. We have to do a better job using our chances up front. But we are in a development process which also takes time," said Werder's Zlatko Junuzovic.
After Augsburg, two of the best teams in the league will come to the Weser - first Gladbach and then Dortmund. After that is a match at Eintracht Frankfurt and then the 100th North Derby against Hamburg - which will be another good chance for Werder to pick up points. "No team from 10th place down will have a quiet second half. They will have to worry about relegation. And every team from ninth place up can hope for an international spot next season. But we were prepared for this situation from the beginning," said Dutt. "It will be a hard second half. But that goes for six, seven other teams. We will face this fight," added manager Thomas Eichin.
