As the Werder crew got on their bikes Monday evening at 7:06 p.m. and headed off for the hotel, the Green-Whites had completed their first full training day on Norderney. Among the activities were a run along the beach before breakfast, an energy sapping session with jumping and coordination drills in the morning as well as diverse game formations in the late afternoon...
Back at training was new acquisition Lukas Schmitz after overcoming his gastro intestinal infection. But Sandro Wagner missed the training as the 23-year-old is dealing with an ankle injury. "I can only be stopped with fouls," said Wagner with a grin. He explained that he once again is having problems with the ankle which was an issue at the end of last season. "It's nothing bad, but it's bothersome," said Wagner, who hopes to return to team training soon.
Youngster Özkan Yildirim however will likely be out longer as the 18-year-old did not even make the trip to the training camp because of a calf injury. Also on the injured list since the start of training is Mikael Silvestre, who is out with cartilage damage in his left knee. There was good news on Monday for the defender. "We are happy that the operation went well. There were no complications. Now we hope Mikael can make a quick return to the team and we will support him in that," said manager Klaus Allofs.
