SV Werder have a new president. The past vice president Dr. Hubertus Hess-Grunewald was elected by the member assembly with overwhelming support as the successor to Klaus-Dieter Fischer, who was stepping down as president on his own wishes. The 54-year-old Hess-Grunewald took over the post atop the Sport-Verein von 1899 e.V. on Monday night. He is also a candidate for SV Werder Bremen GmbH & Co KG aA manager, from which Fischer will step down at the end of the year.
Fischer, who announced his departure in March earlier this year, was named as an honorary president by the member assembly in a very emotional moment with a large round of applause. Until 31 December 2014, he will be there for the new president to answer any questions that may arise. "I am happy that we went through this handover in Werder fashion. We have a strong president in Dr. Hubertus Hess-Grunewald. We have worked together intensively for two years, he is familiar with all affairs and will responsibly lead the Green-Whites destiny," said Fischer, who is stepping down after 45 years in the SV Werder leadership group.
Dr. Hubertus Hess-Grunewald thanked the members for their faith and paid tribute to his predecessor. "We have a new honorary president for SV Werder and no one could hold this title more dignified than Klaus-Dieter Fischer. His Werder way is breathtaking and has no peers. SV Werder have so much to thank Klaus-Dieter Fischer for. I am certain that the name Klaus-Dieter Fischer will be mentioned with great recognition by Werder members in the future," said Hess-Grunewald. To honour the life-long achievements of Klaus-Dieter Fischer and his impact on the Green-Whites, the Werder management and leaders are planning a celebratory farewell in the Oberen Halle of the Bremen City Hall on Thursday 18 December 2014 at 6:30 p.m.
