The personnel options for head coach Robin Dutt are dwindling. After losing both Lukas Schmitz and Philipp Bargfrede for at least six weeks due to injuries, the Werder head coach is now missing two defensive specialists for the starting line-up puzzle for the nearing start of the Bundesliga.
"The fact that we now have two players who will miss at least six weeks is a situation about which we have to think," confirmed manager Thomas Eichin. "We will look for solutions. The coach will look around within the team and try some things out and we continue to observe the possibilities on the market. But the fact is that we will take our time in making the correct decision. We still have a big enough roster and will not add three or four new players but possibly one more. We will look around closely."
Florian Hartherz and Aleksandar Ignjovski are possibilities to fill in as a left back, and both are relaxed looking at the situation. Ignovski knows that Schmitz going down hasn't changed anything for him to give his all in training. "We have a big roster and everyone wants to play. Certainly Florian Hartherz and I will draw more focus but also Cimo Röcker. But nobody has an advantage. I see myself more in the midfield like in the national team. But I will play anywhere I can help the team. I have shown in the last two years that I can play on the wing as well. Over time, I have gathered a certain level of experience," said Iggy.
