It's been more than just 12 months since Mehmet Ekici's start with the Green-Whites and his new beginning in 2012 - it's been worlds. The midfielder struggled throughout his entire first season with injuries and staying healthy. But he has a new number - 10 - and has plenty in mind to accomplish.
"I can train completely without pain! I give my all and afterwards have no pain. It's a totally different world. It's really great. Last season I could not play my game because I could never really train over a longer stretch with the team. Then I left and had surgery," said Ekici. And now things are good. Fellow midfielder Aaron Hunt can see that as well as he praised Ekici in Monday's press chat. "Memo has the ability to be the 10 and take control of the game. He looks fresh and fit. I am certain that he will take a big step this year," said Hunt.
"We have a high quality in the team and the chemistry is good. We are also doing a lot together privately. On the pitch we can fight for the international spots. We are hungry. Dortmund set the example what is possible with lots of young players. Three years ago, Dortmund had names nobody knew," said Ekici.
