Swedish national team striker Denni Avdic has transferred to Werder Bremen from Swedish first division IF Elfsborg Boras. Werder manager Klaus Allofs confirmed the move Monday afternoon after final talks at Werder's business offices. "We are very happy about having acquired Denni Avdic. He is a true central striker, who can always be played to, can hold the ball well, is strong in the air, has a good scoring sense and works well defensively as well," said Allofs, who welcomed Avdic to Germany in mid-December. "Denni was in Bremen around the Frankfurt game to get to know the whole environment. He really enjoyed the atmosphere. The whole package just fit," said Allofs.
The 22-year-old attacker with Bosnian roots signed a contract with Werder until summer 2014 and travelled with the team Monday afternoon to training camp in Belek. Avdic is considered one of Sweden's biggest offensive talents and was leading the Swedish league in scoring this season with 19 goals in 29 matches. The 1.92m striker debuted in the Swedish first league - the Fotbollsallsvenskan - in April 2007 which was shortly thereafter followed with his first appearance with the Swedish U21 national team. The former national team coach Lars Lagerbäck named Avdic to the senior side for the first time in January 2009.
