The Bundesliga takes a short break following the seventh match day with the next round of qualification matches for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and a series of friendlies in Europe. In total, 14 Werder players are travelling with their respective national teams.

The Austrian trio of Marko Arnautovic, Sebastian Prödl und Zlatko Junuzovic makes up the biggest Bremen national team block. The Austrians will take on Kazakhstan on Friday 12 October 2012 at 6 p.m. in Astana before hosting the Kazakhs on Tuesday 16 October 2012 at 8:30 p.m. in Vienna.

Theodor Gebre Selassie and Czech Republic have two home matches scheduled against Malta on Friday and then versus Bulgaria in Prague on 16 October 2012.

Aleksandar Ignjovski and Werder teammate Kevin De Bruyne square off against one another in the World Cup qualification as Serbia welcome Belgium to Belgrade. Ignjovski and Serbia will then take on Macedonia on 16 October 2012 at 8:30 p.m. in Skopje while De Bruyne and Belgium welcome Scotland on the same day at 8:45 p.m.

Mehmet Ekici is hoping for an appearance for Turkey against Romania on 12 October 2012 at 7:30 p.m. in Istanbul and against Hungary on 16 October 2012 at 8:30 p.m. in Budapest.

Sokratis and the Greek national team square off against qualifying group leaders Bosnia-Herzegovina on 12 October 2012 at 8:30 p.m. as well as undefeated Slovakia four days later (8:45 p.m.).

Werder centre back Assani Lukimya is taking a special national team trip as the 26-year-old was nominated for the Congolese Africa Cup of Nations qualification match against Equatorial Guinea in Malabo. It is Lukimya's first nomination for the Congolese national team after a long time away. He has collected three caps for Claude Le Roy's team.

Werder youth players are also on national team duty this week as Niclas Füllkrug, Florian Hartherz and Johannes Wurtz were nominated for Germany's U20 national team.

Francois Affolter and Switzerland's U21 national team will be taking on Germany in the European Championship qualification playoffs. The first leg will take place on Friday at 6 p.m. in Leverkusen and return leg four days later in Lucerne at 5:30 p.m.

Werder's youth keeper Richard Strebinger is travelling with the Austrian U21 national team as they play Congo on 12 October 2012 at 8:15 p.m. in Melk before taking on Hungary on 15 October 2012 at 6:30 p.m. in Parndorf.
