For over a year now, he has been counting down the months and days until his return to competitive football. On Tuesday evening, Naldo's marathon 15 month long injury odyssey finally comes to an end. In a spontaneously arranged friendly match, at 6pm on Tuesday, Naldo & Co. will take on second division leaders FC St. Pauli at the Millerntor stadium.

"It's a big deal for me. I've been in training for over two weeks and I speak to the trainer every day about the way I feel. Now I would appear to finally be in the position to take to the pitch. I'm really happy, because training and an actual game are of course two very different things," explained Naldo at the end of the session on Monday. And right now it's difficult to say whether the midday sunshine or the Brazilian defender is beaming more broadly at the Weser Stadium: "During my long period of absence, I often spoke with my wife, who knows better than anyone about what playing means to me and the fact that I won't be able to sleep tonight," remarked the 28 year old whilst still on the pitch.

But it is not only the central defender who is so much looking forward to the game arranged at short notice. The Werder fans can also look forward to the debut of Aleksandr Ignjovski, who trained together with Naldo, striker Marko Arnautovic, Sandro Wagner, defender Leon Balogun and goalkeeper Bernd Düker on Monday: "I'm really looking forward to my first game. I have played against St. Pauli twice - one win and one draw," said the Serb.

Those making the trip to Hamburg for the game can look forward to low prices, with all tickets for the game, whether standing or sitting, costing just €5. The tickets are available at the gates of the Millerntor stadium, which opens at 4:30pm.
