Werder will welcome some guests from far away as the Bremen Pan African Culture Club has invited the Nigerian women's football team Moje Queens for three weeks of visits.
"We are looking forward to the guests from Nigeria and hope they have an eventful three weeks in Bremen and take with them many impressions of Germany," said Birte Brüggemann, head of girls and women's football with SV Werder Bremen.
The Green-Whites have put together an attractive sports program for the African guests. After a few training sessions, the Moje Queens - 14 girls with an average age of 15 years - will play a test match against Werder's U17 team, play as the only international team at the 1. ÖVB Girls Cup and watch as fans SV Werder Bremen's first women's team play a test match against Regionalliga team FC Bergedorf 85.
But there are plenty of activities off the pitch planned as well to give the Nigerians as many cultural impressions as possible. The young Africans will participate in the Samba Carnival parade, be welcomed at City Hall, visit the township, receive a city tour and get museum tours at the Universum, Überseemuseum (Overseas Museum) and Klimahaus (Climate House) in Bremerhaven.
The Moje Queens were founded in 2008 by the first chairman of the Pan African Culture Club Chief Muritala Awolola. With help of sports promotion programs, the project supports HIV prevention, avoiding early pregnancies and advancing the peaceful existence of Christians and Muslims. The girls train five times a week in addition to their school demands and travel at times long distances for supra-regional matches.
