Sebastian Mielitz has worn the Green-Whites goalkeeper jersey for nearly the last nine years. But the keeper will leave the club at the end of the current season, as ‘Miele' confirmed Wednesday afternoon. "My decision was made in the winter when the coaching staff decided for Raphael Wolf as the number one keeper. I would like to play for a team where I am regularly the number one. Since that is no longer possible in Bremen, I decided to take on a new challenge," said Mielitz about his reasons for leaving.
The Zehdenick native came to Werder as a 15-year-old from the youth system with Energie Cottbus. Mielitz went through Bremen's entire youth system. He received his first professional contract in 2008 and was named the starting keeper in 2012. "Of course I am leaving with a tear in my eye. Werder will certainly always be my club because I don't think it's common for a player to play with one club for nine years," said Mielitz.
Mielitz always felt welcome both in the club and in the city. "I had a great time in Bremen and with SV Werder and I will give my all until the end of the season. I didn't end up with just a lot of good teammates but also with good friends," said Mielitz.
One of them was Nils Petersen. "We are good friends and the contact will remain in the future, without a doubt," said Petersen, adding: "It will be a strange situation when he doesn't show up in the changing room." The most important thing for Sebastian Mielitz is to thank everyone within the organisation for their trust. "The club, the coach and the fans always supported me. I would like to say thank you for that," added Mielitz.
