Werder keeper Sebastian Mielitz has extended his contract by one year as the goalkeeper will stay with the Green-Whites until 30 June 2014. Werder board chairman Klaus Allofs finalized the contract with the 22-year-old Wednesday afternoon.
"Sebastian has already proven his skills and that he is able to play at the highest level. We are happy that with him we have a player who went through our youth teams and was able to establish himself with the professional squad," said Allofs.
With the contract extension, Mielitz will enter next season with more confidence. "This is a decisive stage in my career. There is the chance to become the number one keeper with my club. I fought many years for that. I know what I can do and am confident enough to reach this goal," said Mielitz.
Mielitz began his career with SV Werder seven years ago as he moved to the Weser in 2005 from the U17s of Energie Cottbus. "Miele" started as the Werder U17s keeper and then moved to the U19s. He has been with Werder's U23s and the professional team since 2008. Since then he has appeared in 15 Bundesliga matches for the Green-Whites. He has also played one match in the German DFB Cup and has even gathered European experience, playing two matches in the Champions League and one game in the Europa League. Mielitz played 41 matches for Werder's U23s in the third league.
