Sebastian Mielitz had some major goose bumps Saturday afternoon just before he was to be officially bid farewell before the match against Hertha Berlin. "It was very emotional when you consider that I have been with the club for nine years. The fans made it very difficult for me on Saturday to say goodbye. I have to admit that," said ‘Miele' about his farewell at Weser Stadium.
But leaving Bremen also means a new beginning for the keeper, who played 63 times in the Bundesliga for SV Werder. "It was certainly a nice moment, but the chapter is almost over and then a new one will start about which I am very happy. Farewells are part of the professional business, that's just football," said Mielitz pragmatically. Mielitz celebrated with his closest friends and teammates Saturday evening at home. "We celebrated the last home match with the people who know my girlfriend and me for years," said ‘Miele'.
He also had time to look back on his time with Werder, which was predominantly positive. "I developed into a professional here. My greatest experience was certainly my very first Bundesliga match. It was unfortunately not at Weser Stadium but in Cologne. But it was certainly an unforgettable experience," said Mielitz. His actual debut along the Weser came three days earlier in a 4-1 victory in the Europa League over National Funchal. "Those were significant moments, things that I gladly will look back on and take with me."
New city, new challenge, new start
It's still not clear where his path will lead him next season, though there is a tendency. But Mielitz is really looking forward to his new stop and a new city in his life. "I can't wait for the new challenge. It's very exciting to head to a different city and meet new people. I met a lot of people here in Bremen and appreciate them, but meeting some new faces is also good, also for my personal development. That's what I'm looking forward to most."
