While others were lying in the sun, some Werder players really were playing a game last Monday. They were not held up by holidays and summer break as they accepted the invitation from teammate Per Mertesacker to play for the "Mertesacker and Pocher" team for a good cause against the "Friends of Robert Enke". Werder was the main attraction of the event, which included Green-Whites Marko Marin, Tim Borowski, Clemens Fritz and Wolfgang Rollf. Per Mertesacker was in the starting line-up but was substituted as expected shortly after kick-off by his brother. It was a substitution which Mertesacker didn't mind. "I am really happy that everything worked out. The spectators came out in good numbers as in the years past; we had a lot of helping hands for the organisation; and I can thank two wonderful teams who really offered up some good football," said the organiser, who was able to hand over numerous donation checks in five figures from sponsors to his Per Mertesacker Foundation...
