The plans for the roster for next season are in high gear as Werder's sports bosses offered some more details at Tuesday's press conference about Torsten Frings. "With how the season went we have arrived at a point where we need to set some new tracks. This group which we put together this year did not achieve what we set out on doing," said manager Klaus Allofs. "It's clear that we must reduce the budget for personnel costs for the up-coming season. But our first goal is putting together a strong team." Allofs also said there will be more changes following the decisions on Pasanen, Jensen and Frings. "We don't have to give up any players but there will be a movement. The roster will still change a bit. We will once again look and find our niche and how we can come up with intelligent solutions. We want to reemphasise the competitiveness within the team," said Allofs.

Further details could come in the coming days, including a decision soon about Mehmet Ekici. "I am very confident that we can say more in the middle of the week, maybe even Wednesday," grinned Allofs.
When asked about a replacement for Torsten Frings, head coach Thomas Schaaf said: "There are always quick questions about how a player can be replaced one-for-one. But we aren't really thinking about who comes in but rather what players already on the team will take more responsibility. We will check on where this roster still has potential and where players can be given more responsibility."
