Werder talents Lennart Thy and Florian Trinks teamed together with the U19 German national team to win their first international match of the year, beating hosting England 1-0 (1-0) in Chesterfield.

Head coach Ralf Minge's Germans used their physical advantage in the first half in front of 10,300 spectators in Chesterfield. Thy had two big chances in the third and 17th minutes but could not score. Hoffenheim offensive midfielder Denis Thomalla tallied the winning goal for Germany, beating England keeper Lee Nicholls in the 42nd minute.
