Werder midfielder Marko Marin will leave Bremen after this season and transfer to Champions League finalists Chelsea. Both clubs agreed to a move of the German international for 1 July 2012, as Werder's chairman of the board Klaus Allofs confirmed Saturday afternoon. "We always said that we would figure things out if a player received a good offer that was interesting for Werder as well. We had very good talks with those in charge at Chelsea so that we could come up with a quick agreement. We will work out the final formalities in the coming weeks. We wish Marko all the best for the coming challenge," said the manager.
The midfielder has already passed the physical in London. There were no details released regarding the transfer sum for the 23-year-old, who had a deal with Werder until the summer of 2013. Before the game on Saturday, Marin said: "I had a very nice time with Werder with lots of great characters and nice memories. But of course I am happy about the Premier League with such an established club."
Marin came to the Green-Whites in summer 2009 from Borussia Mönchengladbach and appeared in 87 Bundesliga matches, in which he scored eight goals. In his first season he reached the Champions League qualification with Werder and advanced to the 2010 German DFB Cup final.
