SV Werder and Assani Lukimya have agreed on two-year extension of the defender's contract which was to expire in 2015 until 30 June 2017. Lukimya, who scored goals in both the German DFB Cup first round and Werder's Bundesliga opener, and Werder manager Thomas Eichin signed on the contract Tuesday afternoon in Bremen.
"Assani is a very important player who has a high standing within the team. Without a doubt, he is one of the league's strongest players in challenges and he showed in the first two games that he can also cause problems for opposing teams in the box. We are happy that ‘Luki' will stay with us beyond the season and that we can continue our road together," said Eichin.

Lukimya was also happy about staying with the Green-Whites. "I sense a strong trust within the team and a high standing. I enjoy the calm way people work here and you can tell that things are going forward step by step. I am also happy to remain part of the team. My goal is to continue to develop together with the team," said Lukimya.
Lukimya transferred to Werder from Fortuna Düsseldorf in the summer of 2012 and the Congolese has played in 46 Bundesliga matches and one German Cup game. In addition to two goals in the league, he also scored once in the cup.
