The German U20 international Levin Öztunali has transferred on loan from Bayer Leverkusen to SV Werder. The 18-year-old midfielder inked a deal for the next year and a half until 30 June 2016 with the Green-Whites. Werder manager of sport Thomas Eichin confirmed the move on Sunday and is pleased with the addition. "Levin comes to us as one of the most desired talents in the Bundesliga. It's exactly the kind of transfer that can help us," said Eichin.
Head coach Viktor Skripnik knows of Öztunali for years and is looking forward to his arrival. "I have followed his path regularly because he always made things difficult with the youth teams for SV Hamburg. He is a very strong dribbler and can also pass with other players and recognises space very well. He is flexible and can play a variety of offensive positions," said the coach.
The Hamburg native transferred in the summer of 2013 from the Hamburg U19s to Leverkusen, where he has played six times in the Bundesliga as well as once in the German Cup and once in the Champions League. Among his appearances this season was a start on the third match in the 3-3 Bundesliga draw against SV Werder. Öztunali has played for a number of German youth national teams. The central midfielder teamed with Werder's Davie Selke last summer in winning the U19 European Championship.
