An unbelievable football evening at the BayArena. Leverkusen played their power football in the first half and then Werder showed their unique fighting spirit and great morale in the second half. Countless goal chances, six goals, no winner, great football entertainment. "That was a great Friday night match. A very intensive match, a super atmosphere and two teams who played a good match," said Werder captain Clemens Fritz. "Awesome" was head coach Robin Dutt's one word description.
WERDER.DE listened around in the mixed zone to how other Werder figures saw the evening in the BayArena and the 3-3 draw.
Robin Dutt: "We started okay in the first 15 minutes and got ourselves free from their press and played in their half. But after the 1-0 score it was hard to slow down Leverkusen. We had more than luck with them hitting the woodwork three or four times. They could have finished it off there. But they didn't. And that is a mistake against us. I was thrilled with how my team played in the second half. And the 2-1 score was very nice goal. Of course it's aggravating that Calhanoglu comes right back and shows off his free kick abilities."
Clemens Fritz: "We got better and better after the break. We worked pretty intensively - during the preparations and the national team break. The coach didn't let up and you can see that we're really in good shape. We know that we can go for 90 minutes or longer. We can be satisfied about getting a point playing at this kind of team."
Fin Bartels: "With a lot of luck, Rapha between the posts and thanks to the up-rights and the crossbar, we were not yet dead at halftime. We were able to even out the play in the second half. Looking at the first half, our general mood and our comeback, this feels like a victory today."
Marnon Busch: "It was a great match. Of course we had a little bit of luck, but I think that we could have gotten something here today even without the help of the woodwork. We believed in ourselves before the game and never lost this belief. Now we want to get better and keep going because one point is just one point and not a victory. We absolutely want to win a game."
