The Green-Whites coaching trio was finally completed Wednesday morning as new goalkeeper coach Marco Langner joined fellow newcomers head coach Robin Dutt and assistant coach Damir Buric at Werder Bremen. The Green-Whites training grounds was the first stop for the 44-year-old, who will be working mainly with Sebastian Mielitz, Raphael Wolf and Richard Strebinger when training starts back up at the end of the month.
"I am looking forward to the challenge of continuing to educate the keepers. All three are young guys who all have potential. You can really work a lot in this area. The goalkeeper game has really developed in recent years. It's become quicker and more modern. I would like to build on that and help the keepers take another step forward," said Langner about his new duties in Bremen.
The former SSV Reutlingen professional wants to put a major emphasis on modern goalkeeping. "Playing with the fielders is absolutely the focus that's nowadays some people speak of a ‘goalplayer' even though it sounds a bit unusual. Often the goalkeeper can quickly shift the run of play, the keeper is the first attacker. ‘Miele' does a very good job on that with Werder. He plays the ball quickly vertically to attack the unsorted defence. Playing with the fielders in the area and controlling the box are also very important components," said Langner.
