The preparations for the second half of the Bundesliga have started for Werder players. But before the football boots are laced up, the players put on their running shoes for some laps around the training grounds. Head coach Thomas Schaaf called for a lactate test just hours before the team was to leave for their training camp in Belek, Turkey. The players ran their laps around the track at the Platz 11 grounds. Among those running were Claudio Pizarro and Tim Borowski, who both had been injured at the end of the first half.

"It looks pretty good already for Claudio," said assistant coach Wolfgang Rolff after the session. "Tim also completed the test pretty well. Now we have to wait and see how the injured areas react." Denni Avdic from Swedish first division side IF Elfsborg Boras also completed the lactate test on Monday morning with the Werder players. "Things still have to be figured out," said the Swede with Bosnian roots about when the 1.92m striker could call himself a Werder player for good. Still unable to make their way to the training grounds were the injured Brazilians Wesley and Naldo as well as keeper Christian Vander. Finnish defender Petri Pasanen was unable to complete the lactate test with a cold while Sebastian Prödl looked forward to the up-coming training camp. "Something like this really brings the team together. Of course we want to be prepared as well as possible for the second half," said the Austrian. Also taking part in the training camp - just like the lactate test - were U23 players. Pascal Testroet, Lennart Thy, Dominik Schmidt, Bernd Düker, Onur Ayik, Clemens Schoppenhauer, Leon-Aderemi Balogun, Felix Kroos and Florian Trinks.
