The Werder players were back on the training grounds Sunday morning in Bremen one day after the loss at Cologne. While the reserve players completed a training session, the starters ran some regeneration laps around the grounds. Alongside them was fitness coach Yann-Benjamin Kugel, who was released from the Bremen-Ost clinic on Wednesday 12 January 2011 after collapsing at the training camp in Belek. Kugel has been back on the Green-Whites' training grounds since the weekend.
"I am doing well and don't have any more problems," said Kugel Sunday morning after the runs. While Kugel and company were taking their laps, they were overtaken a few times by Dominik Schmidt. The fullback once again completed a couple of interval runs after his muscle fibre tear. "Now I want to move forward step by step. The healing process has gone really well," said the 23-year-old. Midfielder Daniel Jensen meanwhile cannot think of any running training until Monday at the earliest. "I don't have any more pain on the stair machine. That's a good sign," said the Danish international, who has been out recently with a knee problem and will go through the first stress tests next week.
I the meantime, it's expected that Tim Borowski will make his way back to the training grounds in the coming days after his ankle issues. "It looked a lot better with Tim already on Friday. And the situation certainly improved over the weekend," said assistant coach Wolfgang Rolff.
