Werder midfielder Felix Kroos will miss the remainder of the 2013 calendar year with a torn knee ligament as the initial diagnosis by team doctor Götz Dimanski from Sunday was confirmed on Monday. The 22-year-old Kroos, who has appeared in 11 matches this season, suffered the injury in the match against 1. FSV Mainz 05.

"I twisted the knee in a tackle and realised immediately that I couldn't play on. It's really too bad for me because I was playing well. But I will come back strong," said Kroos.

The 22-year-old midfielder was subbed out in the 45th minute in favour of Mehmet Ekici. It wasn't the first injury absence for head coach Robin Dutt this season. "It's been with us the whole first half, us having to make do without injured players. We never emphasised it but of course it's bitter that we've never been able to really work as a full team. Still, I have 100 percent faith in the team. Now we have to mobilise all our strength to pick up point by point," said Dutt.

Werder manager Thomas Eichin also was not very excited about the latest injury. "Now we have another player who will be out with an injury. It's really too bad for Felix but also for the team because he's the second player at that position to go down after Zlatko Junuzovic. Still, I am optimistic that we can compensate for it," said Eichin.
