Zlatko Junuzovic has played in Werder gear for one and a half years, playing 45 Bundesliga matches. Despite being only 25 years old, he is among the older leaders of the team. WERDER.DE had a chat with the Austrian international.
WERDER.DE: Hello Juno, the first two days of hard work are over with. Is it easier when the transition from holiday to preparations takes place close to home?
Zlatko Junuzovic: Home looks different. I am a city mouse and not in the mountains all that often. I am in Zillertal for only the second time after our training camp from last year. I can hold out the one week, even maybe enjoy it a bit. But then I will be happy to leave this idyll. The mountains even scare me a little bit. I have never been above 3,000 metres.
WERDER.DE: How is the work under the new trainer?
Zlatko Junuzovic: I can't really say too much after two days, but a couple small details stick out. We always start the training sessions with a short talk at the hotel where Robin Dutt says what's on the schedule, what will be worked on, what we need to concentrate on. Content-wise, we are right now working a lot on the organisation of the team on the pitch. It's interesting. But also intensive and hard. But it's always like that after holiday.
WERDER.DE: Anything else stick out?
Zlatko Junuzovic: There's a very good mix of looseness and absolute concentration. It would be great if we could maintain this over the course of the season.
WERDER.DE: What's also evident is that no season goal has been given. You can ask anyone you want.
Zlatko Junuzovic: That is correct. We've learned. I just hope we don't have such a stressful season. We want to get out of the lower regions quickly, don't dream too high and just collect as many points as possible. If we could solidify ourselves in the middle of the table, that would be a good step.
WERDER.DE: So you are optimistic despite the big changes?
Zlatko Junuzovic: After the first impression, yes! We go three players deep at most positions and that competition alone will help this team. I am especially optimistic because I have the feeling that the entire group is looking forward and that gives positive thoughts. That is a change.
